History

In its more than 200-year history, Sal. Oppenheim successfully mastered several existential challenges. It has had to overcome numerous difficult situations such as wars, revolutions, currency reforms and economic and banking crises.

Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. faced these challenges and survived as one of the few independent private banks in Germany. With entrepreneurial skill and long-term vision, our Bank has succeeded over the past decades in becoming Europe’s leading independent private banking group.

In July 2007, the new Group parent company Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. S.C.A. is formed in Luxembourg as a base for the Bank’s further international expansion. The Group headquarters is moved from Cologne to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
